Float & set is a term used for plastering walls that are back to brick/block, A backing plaster (gypsom based or sand & cement) is applied in 2 coats and ruled to achieve a true and plumb background ready to be skimmed or tiled.
Clients much prefer this method as this gives you a solid wall to fix any furniture too without that hollow feel from drylining.
